Fieldwire vs the SitesAI App for a civil subcontractor

Fieldwire organises plans, tasks and punch lists on a build. The SitesAI App runs crews, plant and claims for a civil sub. A dated, sourced comparison.

Fieldwire, now part of Hilti, is a strong field-management tool and it appears on a lot of construction shortlists. It is also built for a different job than ours, and the difference is easy to state: Fieldwire organises the drawing, we organise the crew.

Figures below come from Fieldwire's own pricing page on the date shown.

Plan-centric versus job-centric

Fieldwire's centre of gravity is the plan set. You load sheets, you pin tasks to locations on them, you compare revisions, you run punch lists, and on higher tiers you handle RFIs, submittals and change orders. For a builder or a project manager running a vertical build, that is exactly the right shape — the drawing is the project.

Ours is the job. A lead becomes a quote, the quote is accepted, the job has a site, the site has crews and machines and inductions and dockets, and the work recorded rolls up to a claim. Drawings matter, but a civil sub's week is dictated by who is on site and whether the machine started, not by which revision of sheet A-201 is current.

Where Fieldwire wins

Plans and sheets. Viewing, versioning, sheet compare, hyperlinks, and a BIM viewer on higher tiers. We do not do any of this, and we do not intend to.

Tasks pinned to a location. "This crack, on this wall, on this sheet" is a genuinely better model for defects on a building than a task with a description. Punch lists are their home ground.

RFIs, submittals and change orders. On Business Plus. Formal contract administration on a managed build, which our model does not attempt.

A generous free tier for a small project. Five users and three projects at no cost is a real offer if your projects are few and your people are few.

Where the SitesAI App wins

The free tier covers a working business, not a pilot. Ten licences, every feature, unlimited jobs and sites. Their free plan caps at three projects and five users; our cap is a licence pool you can spend on people, sites, or clients with a portal login.

Price past the free tier. US$5 a licence against US$39 a user. For a ten-person crew that is roughly $50 a month against roughly $390.

Crews, shifts and timesheets. Offered shifts with accept, reject, reassign and no-show detection. Clock-in with photos, geofence, QR and NFC tags, worker and supervisor signatures, queued offline and replayed with the server refereeing every event.

Plant. Asset register, service intervals by machine hours, daily prestarts, defect triage, maintenance history. Not something Fieldwire is for.

Dockets and progressive claiming. One docket per truck signed by the customer on their own phone; scope of work, client-approved variations and progress claims that freeze what they reported. See Quote, scope, variation, claim.

Compliance as a register, with a document wallet, per-site requirements and expiry tracking.

An AI over the business, 142 tools plus a REST API, flat $38 a month for the company.

What does the SitesAI App not do?

  • No plan or sheet management, no versioning, no sheet compare, no BIM viewer.
  • No tasks pinned to plan locations, and no punch-list workflow.
  • No RFIs or submittals.
  • No invoicing, no payments, no accounting ledger.

Should you pick Fieldwire or the SitesAI App?

Pick Fieldwire if the drawing is the centre of your work — vertical construction, punch lists, defects on plans, formal contract administration.

Pick the SitesAI App if the crew and the plant are the centre of your work, and what you need to prove at the end of the month is hours, dockets and quantities against an agreed scope.

For an earthworks or civil subcontractor, that is usually not a close call. For a builder, it usually goes the other way.

Questions people ask

How much is Fieldwire?

There is a Basic plan at $0 for 5 users, 3 projects and 100 sheets. Pro is listed at US$39 per user per month billed annually, Business at US$64 and Business Plus at US$89, with monthly billing available at higher rates. Check their page for current figures.

Which one do I use for drawings?

Fieldwire, comfortably. It is a plan-centric tool and we are not one. If you need to price the dirt on a drawing, that is SitesAI Estimate, which is a different product.

Can Fieldwire do my timesheets and dockets?

Timesheets and plant-hire dockets are not what it is built for. That is the clearest dividing line between the two.
